Some major events in 2026 include the Australian Open, Formula 1 Grand Prix, Vivid, Mardi Gras, Adelaide Fringe, AFL and NRL Grand finals and heaps more. 

Australian Open

The event calendar kicks off with the Australian Open on 12 January.  It runs till 1 February and is one of four major annual tennis grand slams. The tournament began in 1905 and has featured multiple venues, hosted thrilling games, and produced legendary tennis champions.

Tamworth Country Music Festival

Adelaide Fringe 

The Adelaide Fringe Festival is a world-renowned arts event, celebrating arts and culture from across the globe.  It takes place from 20 February to 26 March and has been running for over 64 years. 

The festival features over 8,000 independent artists and offers exciting cultural experiences. Adelaide Fringe Festival has won many tourism awards and is open to all who seek a once-in-a-lifetime experience. 

Sydney Sail Grand Prix

The Sydney Sail Grand Prix is a thrilling spectacle for sailors and the general public. From 28 February to 1 March, Grand Prix teams sail through Sydney Harbour and battle to become victorious. It’s an excellent two-day event for Sydneysiders and tourists with epic battles and moments.

Australia F1 Grand Prix 

Another must-see Grand Prix is the Australian Formula 1 at Albert Park. F1 has become increasingly popular, with exciting championship battles and behind-the-scenes rivalry. The event spans 6 to 8 March and includes exciting media events, live entertainment and, of course, racing action. Tickets sell out fast, but there are fan parks where you can experience the race and its thrilling atmosphere. 

Mardi Gras Sydney

Mardi Gras is Australia’s major LGBTQIA+SB event to celebrate love and equality.  It began in 1978 as a protest, a celebration, and a form of self-expression. Today, it demonstrates these values with more power and passion. The colourful festival takes over Sydney CBD from 16 February to 13 March, featuring music, dance, drink and an electric atmosphere. It’s a must for anyone who wants to celebrate love,  join the movement, and have a fun day out. 

CMC Rocks QLD

If you’re a country music lover and missed the Tamworth festival, no worries! The CMC Rocks Festival in Queensland is your chance to enjoy the best of the country music genre. The festival runs from 20 to 24 March and features heaps of local and International talent.  It also hosts other exciting events, entertainment, and after-parties.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival 

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is a three-and-a-half-week event with stand-up comedy, cabaret, awards and a great debate. It’s one of the largest global comedy festivals, attracting over 777,000 attendees. The popular, affordable event runs from 25 March to 19 April and is sure to offer fun, laughs, and memorable experiences. 

Vivid Sydney 

Vivid is Sydney’s premier winter event to celebrate creativity and tech.  It takes over Sydney streets with light shows, futuristic murals, introspective views, live music and heaps of food and drink. The 16th Vivid ceremony will light up Sydney between 22 May and 13 June. It’s an open-access event and a marvellous experience that you don’t want to miss. 

Cairns Indigenous Art Fair

The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) is Australia’s most prominent Indigenous art fair. It is held annually in Gimuy/Cairns, Queensland, between 9 and 12 July to celebrate the indigenous region. It’s a display of cultural exchange, truth-telling, contemporary expression, and visual art.

Darwin Festival
